This conference entitled “Crossed Perspectives: Agroecology Insights from Europe and Chile,” is presented by Alexander Wezel, Director of Research at Isara, and Andrés Muñoz-Sáez from the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences at the University of Chile.

As demonstrated by the development of a partnership on agroecology at the European level, agroecology is increasingly recognized as a viable option to address the current challenges of food production and systems. However, the development and current status of agroecology can vary greatly depending on the region of the world, and even within individual countries. This talk will present insights into agroecology in two different parts of the world: Europe and Chile.

First, an overview of European initiatives, cases, examples, and programs related to agroecology in Practice, Science, Movement, Living Labs, and Education and Training will be presented. This talk will be based on the mapping of agroecology in Europe achieved in 33 countries within the AE4EU project. For several European countries, the barriers and future perspectives for the development of agroecology, considering some recent policy developments, will also be discussed.

In the second part, prepare to embark on a journey into the future of agroecology in Chile. We will examine recent educational programs in agroecology, closely look at the goals of the Chilean agroecological society, and review the latest government efforts to scale agroecological family farming systems. These perspectives will provide insights into the future of agroecology at a national level.
